  • operationgreenlight

In preparation for the Veterans Day holiday, Skagit County is pleased to announce that the County Courthouse will be illuminated green through November 11, 2024, as part of Operation Green Light.
Operation Green Light is a national collaborative initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) to support military veterans, and raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.
The Skagit County Commissioners will host a work session with Public Health and community partners on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to provide information and updates about veteran services available in Skagit County. The work session will be held in the Commissioner’s hearing room at 1800 Continental Place, Mount Vernon, and televised on TV21. The public can also join via Zoom at the link on the Commissioner’s webpage.
“Operation Green Light is a simple and engaging way to express our collective appreciation. It is a small gesture that we hope sparks a larger conversation,” said Commissioner Lisa Janicki.
“It is important to make sure our veterans and their families know that their service mattered,” said Commissioner Ron Wesen. “Skagit County is grateful for their many sacrifices.”
In addition to lighting the Skagit County Courthouse, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by changing one light bulb to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors, customers, and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends and family.
“We hope that Skagitonians join us in shining the light on these incredible individuals who have sacrificed so much in the name of freedom,” said County Commissioner Peter Browning.
By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported. Residents can share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
